Stained Concrete

Concrete driveways and floors have traditionally been all about function and less about looks. Think standard gray flooring with little to no personality. Well, the good news is this is no longer the case. Now thanks to new refinishing techniques you can have beautiful and functional stamped concrete and stained concrete floors and driveways.

Both of these finishing techniques allow you to put personality and flare into your home, office, and business environment. You may not be 100 percent familiar with stamped concrete and stained concrete so we’ll give you a primer on what these two environmentally friendly techniques are.

Stained concrete is the process of turning standard flat concrete into a surface that has texture and dimension. With special stamping processes and machinery, a plain surface can be given curb appeal that enhances the appearance and marketability of your home, office or building. Some common examples of stamped concrete include textures and embossing to resemble: brick, wood, tile, and slate. In addition we can do custom stamped concrete to meet your exact requirements – such as company logos or a custom design.

One of the major benefits of this process is that the longevity and durability of your concrete surface is not impacted. Thanks to new techniques in concrete stamping, we can assure you that your patio, sidewalk, driveway, pool deck and flooring will not only look good but last for years to come.

To ensure a natural and effective look, stamped concrete involves a three-step process that includes adding a base color, adding an accent color and then stamping your chosen pattern into the concrete.

The second finishing technique that has become more popular over recent years is staining concrete. And no this does not mean removing stains from concrete! Quite the opposite in fact. Stained concrete is another way for you to add personality and flare to your concrete surfaces. With this process, you can add dynamic colors to your concretes surfaces – eliminating the gray and giving the surface some personality and pizzazz. Using an acid stain or water-based stain we can change the color your patio, driveway, floor, pool deck and sidewalk.

Acid staining is accomplished by using a chemical reaction with water, mineral salts and muratic acid. This combination of materials is applied to the concrete and when it reacts with the naturally occurring lime in the concrete, subtle earth-based tones and colors are created. This process typically takes between one and four hours to take effect and leaves you with a natural looking surface that can be anywhere from rusty reds to deep bronze coloring. To ensure the look and durability of your stained concrete the final step is to clean the concrete to remove excess coloring.

With water staining the process involves coating the concrete, using polymer-based, acrylic and epoxy stains. This process of concrete staining gives you a more translucent look along with an opaque color.

As you can appreciate, concrete staining and concrete stamping really can add a new dimension to your home, office or business. The safe and proven techniques involved ensure that your concrete remains as durable as it was the day it was poured – the difference now being that your driveway for example stands out and really adds value to your home.

Unlike other finishing techniques, stamped concrete and stained concrete can be completely customized to your tastes and needs. Perhaps you want to incorporate some brick appearance along with a creative pattern in the middle of your driveway – no problem. Or maybe you’re looking for a way to make the entrance to your office building more appealing – with concrete staining we can give you an inviting and friendly appearance to the sidewalk.
